2010 WSOP Tournament Rules announced

Harrah’s Entertainment released the official rules for the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) last week, and while no major changes were added to this year’s tournament series, the event’s organizers have included better definitions of some rules and incorporated revisions made by the Tournament Directors Association.

The penalty tracking system used in 2009 will be implemented in 2010. Penalties range from warnings to disqualification from the tournament and removal from the premises. Some of the infractions stated by the rules includes exposing hands, acting out of turn, removing chips from the table, abusive language, excessive celebration, soft play, throwing cards, dealer abuse, discussing the content of a hand and cell phone use. But even when the rules state that all cell phones must be turned off during play,  the WSOP regulations notes that “Players not involved in a hand (cards in muck) shall be permitted to text/email at the table, but shall not be permitted to text/email any other player at the table”. In addition, players who need to use their cell phones during the game must be at least one table length away from their seats.

Bad Hygiene has also been added as part of  the Player Conduct rules and will not be tolerated this year. According to rule 37, “Any individual who encounters behavior that is not civil or courteous — or is abusive in any way — is encouraged to immediately contact a Tournament official. This shall include, but is not limited to, any player whose personal hygiene has become disruptive to the other players seated at their table.”

The logo policy used last year will remains the same for the 2010 WSOP. Logos promoting drugs, handguns, lotteries, obscene material, pornography, libel, or advertises any online gaming site that conducts business with U.S. Residents will not be allowed at the tables (Only the .net versions).

“Poker has evolved exponentially the last decade, and with so many new players to the game, it’s important that we as tournament officials, dealers and players are all familiar with the rules. We believe that as the industry leader, it’s important for us at the WSOP to have the most comprehensive rules in the game today.” said Vice President of International Poker Operations and World Series of Poker Tournament Director Jack Effel.

The 2010 World Series of Poker will feature a total of 57 gold bracelets events taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from May 27-July 17, 2010.  Players are encouraged to download the PDF document from the official WSOP website and become familiar with the tournament’s rules prior to playing in any events. LVMS has announced that professional Indy car racer, Danica Patrick, will compete in the 14th annual Sam’s Town 300 scheduled on February 27th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“We’re ecstatic to be the site of one of Danica’s first races in NASCAR competition. Danica is one of the most recognizable figures in all of sports, and her decision to place the Sam’s Town 300 on her schedule will add tremendous excitement to our 2010 NASCAR Weekend. Her decision to enter stock-car competition opens many doors in the NASCAR world from a promotional standpoint, and it provides a unique opportunity for us to cultivate new fans.” said LVMS president Chris Powell.

Patrick, who’s about to make her debut on NASCAR’s Nationwide Series, made the announcement Thursday, only two weeks after announcing that she will race in  in a limited number of NASCAR Nationwide Series races, driving the #7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet Impala for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports team.

Since her debut in the Indy Racing series in 2005, Patrick has achieved multiple recognitions, winning the Rookie of the Year for both the 2005 Indianapolis 500 and the 2005 IndyCar Series season. The same year, Patrick became the fourth woman to compete in the Indianapolis 500, following Janet Guthrie, Lyn St. James and Sarah Fisher. Other achievements include winning the Sportswoman of the Year in 2006, and taking the Twin Ring Motegi in the Indy Japan 300 on April 20, 2008, becoming the first woman to win an IndyCar race.

“We’re very pleased that Ms. Patrick has decided to participate in the Sam’s Town 300, which has consistently been one of the premier races on the Nationwide Series circuit. Her participation brings another level of excitement to NASCAR Weekend in Las Vegas.” said Paul Chakmak, chief operating officer of Boyd Gaming, Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino’s parent company.

Tickets for Sam’s Town 300 and Shelby American NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Feb. 28 are available on WDIAV Tickets section. For more information, please click here.

Joe Cada wins 2009 WSOP Main Event

21 year old Joe Cada is the new WSOP Main Event Champion after beating Darvin Moon in the heads-up play early Tuesday morning. The Heads up play began on Monday night at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino with Cada leading the chip count with 135,950,00 vs. Darvin Moon’s 58,850,000 stack.

However, Cada’s chip advantage was cut on the very first hand of the heads up play, when Moon’s pocket Queens bested Cada’s pocket 9’s. Moon, who never lost his play during the heads up, reverted the situation, taking the chip lead after 11 hands. Moon kept betting aggressively before and after the first break, winning 14 of the first 21 hands after the break and taking a 96-million chip lead over Cada.

Cada decided to put a stop in Moon’s momentum, betting 3 million on the pre flop and getting called by Moon. The flop came 10-5-9 and both players checked. With a 10 on the Turn, Cada bet another 3 million and was immediately re-raised by Moon, who moved all in. After a few minutes analyzing his chances, Cada called, revealing J-9 vs Moon’s 7-8. The river was a three of hearths, giving Cada the  lead with about 108 million in chips.

Cada’s final punch came on the 88th hand and only eight hands after he regained the chip lead. In the final hand, Cada made a 3 million bet on the Pre Flop and was re raised by Moon to 8 million. Cada took a moment to check his cards and re raised All In. Moon made the call and the race was on. Cada once again revealed pocket 9’s and Moon showed Q-J. The flop of 8c-2c-7s. A king of hearts came on the turn, and the seven of clubs came on the river, giving Cada two pair and his first World Series of Poker Championship  Bracelet.

Both players were congratulated by World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack, who awarded  the WSOP Main Event bracelet and presented the $8,547,042  first prize to the twenty-one year old Cada.
