African Cup Of Nations News: Ghana and Egypt players dominate in the team of the touranment

There are times - standing in rain-sodden clothes on rail replacement bus journeys to Wigan, for instance - when the life of a football journalist is a pretty miserable one. But there are times when the perks make you wonder why anybody would want to do any other job. Last night was definitely in the latter category. Lying on a sun-lounger by
the pool at a villa once owned by the Unita leader Jonas Savimbi, smoking a Partaga Madura and drinking scotch after a lobster and champagne dinner - all paid for by the lovely people at Standard Bank (I think they’re expanding into Angola, but to be honest I wasn’t really paying attention during that bit) - was one of those moments of
high luxury I suspect I’ll never forget.

Talk turned to the team of the tournament, so, after less argument than usual given the domination of Egypt and Ghana, here is a best XI as selected by a randomly convened panel of international journalists sitting by a pool.

[4-1-3-2]

Essam el Hadary (EGY) - Faouzi Chaouchi of Algeria made the best saves, but only El Hadary inspired any sort of confidence with his handling.

Samuel Inkoom (GHA) - It’s been a good tournament for right-backs (which probably means it’s been a poor tournament). Egypt’s Ahmed El Mohamady impressed and Yusuf Mohamed of Nigeria was solid, but Inkoom gets the nod for his consistency.

Hany Said (EGY) - The Egyptian libero has been as calm and commanding as ever, organising the line and stepping out form the back.

Wael Gomaa (EGY) - It seems like he’s been around since the dawn of time, always unyielding, always stifling the opposition’s best striker.

Isaac Vorsah (GHA) - Another of the young Ghanaians to have emerged in the tournament, he seems to have grown in self-belief with every game.

Yaya Toure (CIV) - Of the Ivorians, only Toure came out of the tournament with much credit. He was imposing at the back of the midfield and laid on the first against Ghana with a finely-weighted pass.

Ahmed Hassan (EGY) - He’s 34, he’s already won the tournament three times, but he’s as hungry as ever, constantly cajoling and promoting. A fine captain.

Kwadwo Asamoah (GHA) - West African football has been crying out for a creative midfielder for a decade; with his vision and range of passing the 21year old may be it.

Gilberto (ANG) - Quick and skilful, he was Angola’s main creative presence, and had he not been hampered by injury they would surely have pushed Ghana harder in the quarter-final.

Asamoah Gyan (GHA) - Derided two years ago in Ghana, the 24 year old has not merely scored half his country’s four goals, but has been an awkward and brave leader of the line.

Emad Meteeb (EGY) - So often the forgotten man in Egypt’s past successes, he has proved himself an intelligent and inventive forward

Florida/Alabama (BCS #1 & SEC Champion) vs. Texas (likely BCS #2 & Big XII Champion)

The SEC Championship Game is settled, it will be a rematch between Alabama and Florida; the winner will head to Pasadena.  Texas has no real problems remaining on their schedule and should with relative ease win the Big XII and head to Pasadena as the #2 team.

Florida/Alabama (BCS #3 or #4) vs. Cincinnati (Big East Champion)

With the first replacement pick, the Sugar Bowl will take the SEC Championship Game loser.  The Sugar Bowl gets the final pick of the litter, and will be forced to take Big East Champion Cincinnati.

Oklahoma St. (At-Large) vs. TCU (Automatic Non-BCS)

As of right now, Oklahoma St., is in the top 14, and the Fiesta Bowl lost Texas to the National Championship Game.  They will do what the Sugar Bowl did and stay with their home conference tie in (Big XII) and select Oklahoma St.  The Fiesta Bowl gets the second at large pick and will choose between Cincinnati and TCU (both are automatic bids), and they will choose TCU, due to proximity to Glendale.

ACC Champion vs. Penn State (At-Large)

The ACC Championship Game winner will get the automatic bid to the Orange Bowl.  With the first pick after the Sugar and Fiesta Bowls replace their lost champions, Texas and the SEC Champion.  With that said, it will not be a contest, they will take Penn State.

Oregon (Pac-10 Champion) vs. Ohio State (Big Ten Champion)

Ohio State has clinched the berth in the Rose Bowl.  As of right now Oregon is the Pac-10 leader and would face the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl.

For Boise State to get into the BCS, they must see Oklahoma St. lose.  If they don’t they will head to the Poinsettia Bowl.  If they do, it is almost certain they will head to the Fiesta Bowl and probably play Penn State.  Which would then put Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl and TCU in the Sugar Bowl.

IPL Betting: Bangalore Royal Challengers Vs Kings XI Punjab

Posted by: admin  //  Category: CA, Fail, Games, News, Object, Poker Tips, Sports, batting, game, kolkata, management, match, missing, night, replacement, return, team, things, time, weather, wednesday

Bangalore have been disappointing so far, but Frank Gregan can see an unlikely win happening on Friday. Bet: Back Bangalore at [2.3] or better.

Team News
Bangalore will be without skipper Kevin Pietersen who has returned to England to prepare for the first test against the West Indies. Ironically, he will probably be missed for his bowling having only averaged 15.5 with the bat. Jacques Kallis was supposed to take over as captain but with bowling figures of 1-135 off 11 overs the management are considering their options. Rahul Dravid is missing on paternity leave and a return in time to play seems unlikely. Mark Boucher is in cracking form and steered Bangalore home on Wednesday for a much needed win against Kolkata. Punjab hope to have Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara called up as a replacement for the injured Australian Shaun Marsh in the side but will be missing Ravi Bopara who will be on the plane with Pietersen after having claimed the No 3 spot in England’s test side. Punjab go into the match on a high having defended a low total against Mumbai on Wednesday.

Venue, pitch and Conditions

Durban plays host to this game and the average score of the team batting first on Wednesday at Kingsmead was 129. The day-nighter saw the Kings XI post 119 on this track and that looked a surprisingly low score until Mumbai failed to chase it down. This game is also the later start so a low scoring affair may once again be in the offing on a pitch that is normally thought to favour the batsman.

Match Odds
Bangalore have been disappointing thus far whilst Punjab will be very pleased with the way things are going. However, this is going to be a much tighter game than the market would have us believe and a match at [2.3] should be available on Bangalore in what is likely to be an even contest.

Featured Market
Tight games lead to fraught decisions and cool heads don’t prevail. Any odds in the region of [2.0] should be snapped up on there being more than 1.5 run outs in the Total Match Run Outs market.

Jerome Bettis appears to be on his way out at NBC

Posted by: admin  //  Category: Football, Jets, NBC, News, Object, Sports, Super Bowl, UNC, Yankees, invalid, olympic, replacement, season

Three years after his much-ballyhooed, post-Super Bowl, announced-during-the-Winter Olympics hiring, it is likely NBC football analyst Jerome Bettis will not have his contract renewed for the coming season and beyond.

Late last season NBC moved Bettis and Tiki Barber out of its crowded studio and into the field to serve primarily as well-connected reporters.

If NBC has a replacement in mind, I do not know who he is.

Hey . . . what about that retired quarterback the Jets released this week?

IPL Betting: Deccan Chargers v Delhi Daredevils

Posted by: admin  //  Category: Betting, CA, Edge, Gambling, Games, Los Angeles Lakers, News, Object, Sports, Tournaments, battle, chicago, fearsome, game, match, money, power, replacement, team, world

It’s a battle of the big hitters as Deccan take on Delhi and with Gibbs, Gilchrist and Sehwag around Ed Hawkins has got sixes on his mind…

Team news
Deccan are looking unstoppable at the moment so it would be a surprise if they changed a side which has won four out of four. Fidel Edwards should play his last game, however before leaving to join up with the West Indies squad in England. Delhi are expected to again jettison the services of Glenn McGrath to leave him chattering away to himself on the sidelines. Dirk Nannes, his replacement, was good enough against Rajasthan to hold his spot. England’s Paul Collingwood should miss out because he is expected to be named England World Twenty20 skipper on Friday. Owais Shah could stay on after his omission from the Test squad.

Venue, pitch and conditions
Only once has a team scored more than 153 in six 2020 matches at Centurion. The sun should be out, however, for this game which could help the batsmen.

Match odds
The game should be decided by which of the stellar opening partnerships fire. Will it be Deccan’s Adam Gilchrist and Herschelle Gibbs or Delhi’s Virender Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir? Form suggests it will be the former. Sehwag and Gambhir have been strangely quiet and Delhi have twice needed AB de Villiers and Tillakaratne Dilshan to come to the rescue. Obviously it is the opening bowlers who should hold the key. Deccan, who are [1.80], have the edge. Edwards and RP Singh go at 5.8 and 6.8 per over while Nannes and Ashish Nehra are both more than seven.

Top batsmen

The money will flood on the opening batsmen for this contest but if the wicket does not suit their flashing blades, perhaps the more circumspect Rohit Sharma and Tillakaratne Dilshan may prosper.

Featured market
Deccan and Delhi have arguably the most fearsome hitters in the IPL. That means our eyes should be caught by the number of match sixes market. We have an incongruity to deal with, though. Historically, the wicket has been difficult to score big on but there is a short boundary on one side. The average number of sixes per match in the last five 2020 games there is 9.4. Deccan average 7.5 per game so far and Delhi 5. With Gilchrist, Gibbs, Sehwag and De Villiers all in the top ten six hitters, it would be fair to assume that with such power on show, the average could be busted. So wager on between 10-13 match sixes.
