Topless Poker Tournament Leads to 20 Arrests

A police raid at a Kentwood, Michigan hotel led to a total of twenty arrests after detectives discovered an online advertisement for an illegal topless poker tournament called “Angels of Game Night” that featured topless dealers and liquor.

“They were so open about it that it was really unusual,” Michigan Police Lt. Curt Schram said. “They put out fliers, advertised on Craigslist and were trying to bring people in by telling them it was all legal.”

Police surprised everyone in the conference room of the Kentwood Ramada Plaza Hotel, where they arrested a total of twenty people including four topless dealers, one of whom was completely naked. The poker players had the notion that this was a legal event, since the organizer was not collecting any percentage of the pot, and they never expected the raid.

“He assured me it’s a legal game,” said poker player Eddie Tauler.

“Told everybody there is nothing to worry about, it’s legal and to have a good time,” said poker player Patrick Daly.

The twenty people arrested were charged with “frequenting or attending gaming places”, which is considered a 90-day misdemeanor in the state of Michigan. From the conference room rented out for the poker event, police seized cash, poker chips, poker cards and other gambling paraphernalia.

The operator of the poker tournament has not been arrested yet, but police have identified the man and say that he is based out of Detroit. He has organized other poker tournaments in the past, with some of these being denied.

2010 WSOP Tournament Rules announced

Posted by: admin  //  Category: 2010 WSOP, 2010 WSOP Schedule, ACC, Articles, CA, CES, Casino, Entertainment, Events, Hotels, Inter, Jack Effel, Las Vegas, Las Vegas Events, News, Object, Online, Other, PLO, Poker, Poker News, Schedule of Events, Tournaments, Twitter, UNC, WSOP, WSOP Schedule, ads, article, b, biggest, book, bracelet, business, cards, d, dealer, dealers, director, drugs, eve, event, forum, game, gaming, gold, hot, hotel, information, ing, international, media, new, nfr, online gaming, person, phone, players, poker tournament, poker tournaments, president, race, regulations, rio all suite, rules, s, schedule, spa, tour, tournament, tournament rules, vegas, website, wedoitallvegas, world, world series of poker

Harrah’s Entertainment released the official rules for the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) last week, and while no major changes were added to this year’s tournament series, the event’s organizers have included better definitions of some rules and incorporated revisions made by the Tournament Directors Association.

The penalty tracking system used in 2009 will be implemented in 2010. Penalties range from warnings to disqualification from the tournament and removal from the premises. Some of the infractions stated by the rules includes exposing hands, acting out of turn, removing chips from the table, abusive language, excessive celebration, soft play, throwing cards, dealer abuse, discussing the content of a hand and cell phone use. But even when the rules state that all cell phones must be turned off during play,  the WSOP regulations notes that “Players not involved in a hand (cards in muck) shall be permitted to text/email at the table, but shall not be permitted to text/email any other player at the table”. In addition, players who need to use their cell phones during the game must be at least one table length away from their seats.

Bad Hygiene has also been added as part of  the Player Conduct rules and will not be tolerated this year. According to rule 37, “Any individual who encounters behavior that is not civil or courteous — or is abusive in any way — is encouraged to immediately contact a Tournament official. This shall include, but is not limited to, any player whose personal hygiene has become disruptive to the other players seated at their table.”

The logo policy used last year will remains the same for the 2010 WSOP. Logos promoting drugs, handguns, lotteries, obscene material, pornography, libel, or advertises any online gaming site that conducts business with U.S. Residents will not be allowed at the tables (Only the .net versions).

“Poker has evolved exponentially the last decade, and with so many new players to the game, it’s important that we as tournament officials, dealers and players are all familiar with the rules. We believe that as the industry leader, it’s important for us at the WSOP to have the most comprehensive rules in the game today.” said Vice President of International Poker Operations and World Series of Poker Tournament Director Jack Effel.

The 2010 World Series of Poker will feature a total of 57 gold bracelets events taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from May 27-July 17, 2010.  Players are encouraged to download the PDF document from the official WSOP website and become familiar with the tournament’s rules prior to playing in any events. Las Vegas hotel and casino operator, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. today announced details of the 5th annual MBA Poker Championship taking place from January 15-17th at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.

Harrah’s will host MBA students from across the country for their chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes. Once again this year, a portion of the MBA Poker Tournament proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association and Cleveland Clinic.

Harrah’s Entertainment’s MBA poker tournament offers MBA students and alumni alike the opportunity to test their poker skills and their school spirit against MBAs from top schools. The MBA Poker Championship is open to currently enrolled full time and part time MBA students and alumni who are at least 21 years of age. Non MBA students are welcome to attend the the tournament and awards ceremony. Spectators can also opt for a “VIP Package” (cost: $50), which gives access to the Welcome Reception, the VooDoo Lounge at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino event, and other social activities.

Last year’s event brought more than 600 MBA students and alumni from some of the country’s best universities, including Duke, Harvard, Kellogg, Stanford GSB, UCLA, University of Chicago Booth School, and Wharton and paid over $65,000 in cash prizes.

“This is an important networking and recruiting event for the MBA candidates and our recruiting team. MBA poker players tend to think quickly on their feet and be quite quantitatively apt — two attributes highly coveted by businesses.” said Brad Warga, vice president of talent acquisition, Harrah’s Entertainment.

Team CardRunners member and instructor Eric Liu quickly became one of the most respected No-Limit Hold’em players around after turning a $200 deposit into an impressive $34,000 bankroll in just a few months.

Eric’s interest in poker developed after watching a poker tournament on TV and decided to try out his poker skills firsthand. He jumped up the ranks in a very short time playing in the biggest No-Limit Cash games online and more recently playing in live poker tournaments. His biggest win to date came in 2008 when he finished in-the-money at an EPT event in January of that year.

When not at the poker tables, Eric spends his time studying at Duke University, where he is finishing up his senior year. Additionally, Eric devotes a great deal of his time doing volunteer work, traveling and spending time with friends.

Look for Eric online playing at Full Tilt Poker’s high-stakes No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha tables.
