Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell will return to the Golden Nugget Las Vegas for two limited engagements April 13-16 and April 20-24 in the Gordie Brown Showroom.

Known for bringing the standards from the Great American Songbook to life, the jazz vocalist will perform at 8 p.m. nightly as part of his 2010 performance schedule.

“We’re thrilled to have such an amazing vocalist return to the Golden Nugget for 2010,” said Justin McVay, Golden Nugget public relations manager. “We’re
confident Steve Tyrell will be as well received this spring as he was in 2009. He’s one of the best.”

Tyrell last performed at the Golden Nugget as part of his 2009 performance schedule in June, where he performed to sold-out crowds and received rave reviews by critics and audience members alike.

With his breakthrough performances in “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride II,” Tyrell reinvented and re-popularized classic pop standards for a modern-day audience.  He recently produced Rod Stewart’s “Soulbook,” released in October 2009, and sang “New York Is Where I Live,” written by 15-year-old Clyde Lawrence, in the December 2009 motion picture “Did You Hear About the Morgans.”

In September 2009, his voice was also featured over the end title of Steven Soderbergh’s film “The Informant,” singing a new song written by Academy Award Winners Alan and Marylin Bergman along with Marvin Hamlisch.  Tyrell has produced hits for artists ranging from Linda Rondstadt to Grammy-winner Rod Stewart  (“Stardust…Vol. 3”, “Thanks for the Memories… Vol. 4) and has collaborated with numerous other artists like Ray Charles, Aaron Neville, LL Cool J, Blood Sweat and Tears, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Burt Bacharach, Bette Midler, and Stevie Wonder, just to name a few.

Tyrell has also sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate following all over the world with his hits like “The Way You Look Tonight,” “A Kiss To Build A Dream On” and “The Sunny Side of The Street.”

NBC’s Poker After Dark will be back on January 4th for a new season featuring thirteen new players and a mixture of regulars from previous seasons.Poker After Dark season 6, recorded in October 2009 at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, will air thirteen new episodes, seven in the traditional six-handed winner-take-all freezeout format and six in cash games. Ali Nejad will return to Poker After Dark to provide commentary, while the popular and beautiful Leeann Tweeden will returns for her third season as the show’s host. Season 6 will kick off on January 4th, in its regular 2:05 a.m timeslot on NBC. The remaining dates will be determined and announced in the following days.

Golden Nugget Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas is joining the NFR celebrations in Las Vegas by hosting a series of events, contests and concerts featuring some of the hottest names in country music.

During the length of 2009 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Golden Nugget will offer nightly shows at its  600-seat showroom. American country music group Lonestar will kick off the events on December 3rd . The NFR concert series will continue on December 4th and 5th with Clay Walker, followed by The LoneStarlets on December 6th and 9th. Also on the list are Academy of Country Music’s Top Male John Michael Montgomery, who is scheduled to play on December 10th; and Country music phenom, Rodney Atkins on December 11th and 12th.

“With these top country headliner ticket prices starting at $39, we’re confident these shows will sell out fast. We’re also offering $99 VIP seating in the front two rows with an artist meet and greet for the biggest fans.” said Golden Nugget’s Public Relations Manager, Justin McVay.

Other events programmed during the 2009 WNFR include closed-circuit viewings of WNFR, free autograph session with all 30 Team Roper contestants December 7th from 12:00 pm until 2:00 p.m, and three “Buckin’ Bronco” blackjack tournaments on December 3rd, 7th and 10th, with $10,000 in cash prizes in each tournament. The 2009 WNFR festivities will close on December 12th with a special Ford F-150 truck giveaway. Tickets for the drawing can be earned by playing tables and slots, joining the hotel’s 24-Karat Club, or redeeming WNFR ticket stubs.

The best trained firefighters from all over the United States and will congregate in Sin City for the 18th annual Scott World Firefighter Combat Challenge. The event will take place from November 16th to 20th in Downtown Las Vegas, right in front of the Golden Nugget Hotel. The event will bring  hundreds of qualifiers from more than 20 regional events held throughout the year, as well as international competitors from Canada, Germany, Argentina, Chile, South Africa and New Zealand.

Since its inception in 1991, the Firefighter Combat Challenge showcases the skill and strength of men and women who race against time every day to save lives. Known as the “toughest two minutes in sports”, the Challenge encourages firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession’s risks and physical demands to the public. The Firefighter Combat Challenge participants have to wear full bunker gear, including an Air-Pak breathing apparatus. Pairs of competitors race head-to-head as they simulate the real-life firefighting by performing a series of five tasks including climbing the 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging 42 pound hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. “victim” as they race against the clock.

Producers of “High Stakes Poker” show on GSN have released the names of the seventeen pros confirmed to play the HSP Season Six. The new season will be recorded at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Downtown Las Vegas from November 11th to 13th and will feature five newcomers as well as some of the biggest names in the game.

Making their High Stakes debut are 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event finalist Dennis Phillips, Ukrainian pro Yevgeniy “Jovial Gent” Timoshenko , British player Sammy George, Andreas Hoivold and Lex Veldhuis. The lineup will also include Full Tilt Pros Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Phil Ivey, Mike Matusow, Pokestars sponsored players Daniel Negreanu, poker legend Doyle Brunson, online poker pro and Heads Up expert Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Barry Greenstein, UltimateBet pro Phil Hellmuth, and Allan Meltzer.

In addition, the show’s producers announced that  TV personality, journalist and poker player Kara Scott will replace A.J. Benza as Gabe Kaplan co-host. Scott, who worked as host of the European Poker Tour, has also played in several world class tournaments, cashing out in the World Series of Poker main event in both 2008 and 2009 and also finishing second in the 2009 Irish Open.

Season 6 of “High Stakes Poker” will begin airing on Valentine’s Day – Sunday, February 14th, 2010 – at 8:00pm ET.
