On Friday, February 19, stars such as Tony Hawk, Christian Slater, Brad Garrett, Jason Alexander, Joanna Krupa, Montel Williams, Donnie Wahlberg, Marlon Waynes and Slash were among the 39 players who competed in the $540 event in The Venetian Poker Room - raising more than $42,000 for Three Square, a food charity in Southern Nevada.

This inaugural poker event started off on the right foot with over 872 poker players registering for the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Tournament with many well-known names in the international poker scene.

Friday’s tournament saw some big celebrity names battle it out on the poker tables including:

AJ Buckley from CSI NY, Nicholas Gonzalez and Shaun Sipos of CW’s Melrose Place and UFC fighter Tito Ortiz.

Christian Slater was amazingly friendly and a fan favorite. He kept jumping up from the poker table to take photos with the fans lining the aisles. A bounty was put on Daniel Negreanu and the prize - a signed guitar by Slash - went to actor Donnie Wahlberg. Donnie said he was going to give the guitar to his son.

Zak “Zakooza” Alameddine from New York won the event and a ticket into next year’s PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas. He beat top poker pros such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, world champion Joe Cada, Gavin Griffin, Dennis Phillips, Chris Moneymaker and Vanessa Rousso.

Baseball legend, Orel Hershiser, came second winning a seat in the NAPT Mohegan Sun event in April.  John Beveridge from Henderson, Nevada, came third and won a seat into today’s $5,000 PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour Venetian Main Event which is set to attract more than 800 players.

After playing in the tournament, the stars headed up to TAO Nightclub for cocktails, hors dourves and a special musical performance by recording artist T-Pain.

-    Christian Slater was seeing talking with Marlon Waynes and taking more photos with party guests and snacking on chicken satay.

-    Poker great Phil Hellmuth was seen relaxing in the VIP area with Brad Garrett and his friend enjoying a few cocktails.

-    Joanna Krupa mingled with  Tony Hawk then turned her attention to T-Pain and danced to the music.

-    Melrose Place stars Nicholas Gonzalez and Shaun Sipos also hung out in the VIP area and spoke about how much they love Tao and The Palazzo and can’t wait to come back.

The best Chinese restaurateurs from around the world will gather at the Venetian Resort and Casino on January 3-5, 2010 to attend the 6th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA  Awards Show and Conference.

The event organized by Chinese Restaurant News and sponsored by Kikoman, National Restaurant Association and Venetian and Palazzo Resort, recognizes, cultivates and preserves the best in Chinese cuisine, and will bring chefs from Mainland China, Taiwan and Canada and U.S. Chefs for a series of demonstrations and cooking events. Leading chefs from the San Francisco Bay Area’s Asian Chefs Association, including Chef Lawrence Chu, Sr., Khai Duong, and special guest Chef Theresa Lin, will co-host the show, and lead more than a dozen acclaimed chefs from around the world in a special dinner celebration.

Both international and U.S. chefs will take part in a Chinese culinary show of noodle pulling and fruit carving to highlight the finer side of Chinese cuisine. Celebrity Chef Lee Ann Wong and Master Chef Martin Yan will reveal the final rankings on Sunday, January 3.

“This year, we are thrilled to include more members of the International culinary community. The Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Awards Show continues to set the highest standards for Chinese and Asian restaurants, as well as to recognize the industry’s continued evolution toward true culinary art and flair, equivalent to that attained by other gourmet food categories such as French and Italian.” said Jan-Ie Low, chief producer of the show.

Another original for the show this year is the addition of the first-ever US-China Business Summit  held in conjunction with the Top 100 Awards. The Summit will be the largest American-Chinese business assembly in history where thousands of minority business owners, entrepreneurs, delegates and government officials will convene to gather resources, network and discover opportunities to capitalize on a stronger relationship between the business communities of the two countries.
