WBO World welterweight and IBO light welterweight champion, Manny Pacquiao, said he is ready to file a lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions for a series of comments made by the fighter and his team and that could spoil the fight scheduled for March 13th at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The controversy rised after Mayweather and his team demanded Olympic-style testing, which uses random urine and blood testing, with the ability to conduct tests any time, including the day of the fight. The proposed plan was rejected by Pacquiao, who agreed to have his blood tested 30 days before the bout and immediately after its conclusion. Floyd Mayweather Jr and his team have repeatedly accused Pacquiao of taking illegal substances, claiming that he has moved through several weight divisions and won titles while maintaining his speed and power.
Pacquiao, angered by these accusations, said he is ready to file a lawsuit against Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions if the boxers does not stop insinuating that he used substances to enhance his performance. Pacquiao issued a statement from the Philippines regarding this issue and dared Mayweather to accept the conditions and face him in Las Vegas as it was planned.
“Enough is enough. I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy but I think they have gone overboard. I say to Floyd Mayweather Jnr, don’t be a coward and face me in the ring, mano-a-mano and shut your big, pretty mouth, so we can show the world who is the true king of the ring. I have instructed my promoter, Bob Arum, to help me out in the filing of the case as soon as possible because I have had people coming over to me now asking if I really take performance-enhancing drugs and I have cheated my way into becoming the No. 1 boxer in the world. I maintain and assure everyone that I have not used any form or kind of steroids and that my way to the top is a result of hard work and a lot of blood spilled from my past battles in the ring, not outside of it”
Pacquiao’s manager, Bob Arum, said they will elevate the case to the Nevada State Athletic Commission to determine whether additional blood testings are needed.
“We will allow Golden Boy to present experts to the commission to explain why additional testing is required, and we’ll explain our position. Then we’ll let the Nevada commission decide.” Arum said.
The fight would take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on March 13th, 2010. Arum also stated that Italian American boxer Paul Malignaggi has been offered to fight Manny Pacquiao if conversations with Mayweather don’t show any sign of progress.
