The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) testified today before the California Senate Governmental Organization Committee in a hearing appointed to investigate the possibility of licensing and regulating intrastate internet poker.

“The PPA respects the due-diligence of the Committee to investigate “if” online poker can be regulated, and we stand here to tell you that it unquestionably can be regulated, and in fact, already is being regulated, very effectively, across the globe in well-respected jurisdictions. The U.S. Congress is debating federal bills that would establish a licensed and regulated online poker marketplace, which the PPA strongly supports.” said John Pappas, executive director of the PPA, who testified along with PPA’s California State Director Steven J. Miller.

“Given California’s love affair with poker, the PPA and our members feel strongly that if the state decides to go down the path of intra-state licensed and regulated Internet poker it must do it with the long-term needs of the consumer and of the State and California Tribes in mind.” testified Miller.

The PPA made several observations and suggested the Committee to consider the benefits of having an effective intrastate licensing and regulation. Among the requests made by the PPA are: Respect the consumer, ensure competition to eliminate monopolies, increase innovation and incentive consumers, and protect access to the global poker marketplace. For PPA members,  limiting the play to California players will hurt the consumers, and the potential tax revenue for the state of California. If a player can’t find a game online that they want to play, they will simply not play and that means that an opportunity to generate tax revenue is lost.

“A conservative strategy is the favored approach when considering the future of online poker regulation in California. It would be unwise to push “all-in” on an intra-state monopoly that favors a consortium of interests when it is the consumers who ultimately hold the best hand,” concluded Pappas.

e8e6b9a7dajack 1 Florida Gators V Cincinnati Bearcats in 2010 Sugar BowlFor all ya’ll wondering how pissed the Gators were after losing to Alabama and miss out on the national championship game, we’ll find out soon enough.

Because on January 1, the Florida Gators will take out all their frustrations on the 2010 Sugar Bowl, where they take on the Cincinnati Bearcats. Yes, it doesn’t look good for the undefeated Bearcats people.

To say that the Florida Gators are feakin’ pissed could very well be an understatement. This year was supposed to be Tim Tebow’s last hurrah as he came back to Florida to play his senior year looking to win one more national championship with the Gators.

tim_tebowInstead, the Alabama Crimson Tide spoiled any plans they have of another trip to the BCS title game when the Tide claimed the 2009 SEC title. Tim Tebow will now leave Florida on a sour note, having missed out on winning the national championship in his final year as a Gator.

Of course, before he leaves the college ranks to probably get drafted by the Buffalo Bills, he still has a shot of giving Florida one more hardware, the Sugar Bowl. That is if he can lead the Gators to a win over the 12-0 Cincinnati Bearcats.

The problem is, the Cincinnati Bearcats are looking to take out some frustrations they may have as well. You see, this team went a perfect 12-0 through the season, yet, they still didn’t get the invite to play in the national championship game.

A win over the defending national champions…

e8e6b9a7dajack 126 Patriots take on the Saints on Monday Night FootballAre you ready for arguably the biggest game of the week?

Week 12 of the 2009 NFL football season culminates with arguably one of the biggest games you’ll ever get to see this year.

That’s right because on Monday Night Football, we have the New England Patriots taking on the unbeaten New Orleans Saints in a game that is arguably THE game to watch this week. The Saints are trying to stay undefeated against a Patriots team that came close from finishing the season unscathed a couple of seasons ago. In case you haven’t guessed it yet, this one is going to be good.

Tom Brady helped the Patriots beat the New York Jets last week in what was a nice confidence - tom_bradybooster before facing another highly decorated opponent on the horizon.

After a 3-0 start, the Jets entered this game as the wounded lion, and it was up to the New England Patriots to pounce. They did just that, coaxing rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez into four turnovers three of them interceptions.

Now the road gets much tougher, as the Patriots play in another hostile environment against a New Orleans Saints team looking to keep its perfect season unblemished. The Saints have shrugged off a slow start defensively, shutting down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win their 10th straight game after yielding a long touchdown drive to open the faceoff.

The Saints’ 10-game winning streak is the longest in…
